Hi there, just taking a break from the Japan Diary to officially commit, on this little blog of mine, to National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo as it’s commonly known. If you like writing and you haven’t tried it, you should, it’s awesome. There’s still time to sign up (today is the first day) and get in your word count! It’ll make you laugh (well that’s up to you and what you right, really), it’ll make you cry (probably) and it’ll change your life (definitely). It’s a great way to make new friends who are also interested in writing and you’ll end up with the (very) rough draft of at least half of a novel (depending how epic you intend it to be) by the end of it. I know it can be done, as I’ve completed it twice before, but this year I really want to win it while having a full time job at the same time (my previous two wins were achieved while unemployed).
It will mean that my Japan Diary entries might come a little more slowly, as I will have to write an average of 1667 words every day for 30 days in order to achieve the 50’000 word total that equals winning NaNoWriMo, but I haven’t forgotten about it and I will do my best to keep up with the posting. After all, the diary already exists on paper and merely needs transcribing, whereas the novel I have to pull painstakingly from my brain, word by word.

Confessions of an Imaginary Census Collector
On the fictional island of Glennshore, new resident Molly is hired as a census collector in the National Census of 2014. She is not allowed to tell anyone other than her Census Partner and Census Team Manager about what she might hear and see on the job. From booby-trapped houses to creepy old vampire ladies, Molly will discover that you really don’t know your neighbours until you know far, far too much…

Your teaser (synopsis) sounds wonderful. And I could add a few bits to it – but as you have pointed out, I am not allowed to talk about it.
I was a census enumerator one year (with the regular census) and well as being a an enumerator crew chief.(during a census ‘test’ – when only selected areas across the country had a census, in order to test reception of online census testing, changes in questions, etc.)
I don’t know what your NaNo name is – and I only get lost on the forums anyway. But I would really, really love to read your novel when you’re done. Or I could be a beta reader for you before it’s done.
My NaNo name is JaneyinNS, and my region is the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia Canada.
(Can’t remember how I got here but I am very glad I did.)

My novel is actually turning into a crime novel but the synopsis still applies. It’s going okay but it will need a LOT of work before I can show it to anyone and it’ll take a lot more than 50’000 words to wrap up the story… but thanks for the offer! I’ll bear it in mind if I do manage to finish it.
